History
The Inn on Main was built in 1904 by John A. Walker. Since that time the home has changed hands four times. Mr. Walker sold the home to W.C. Carrington who then sold it to the most notable family to own the home, the Alexander's. Alonzo Alexander purchased the home in 1907 where it remained in the family until it sold in 1997. Mr. Alexander lived in the home with his wife, Cecelia, two children and eleven servants. Upon his death, his son Alonzo Bernard Alexander took over the family business and also the home. He and his family lived there until his death, when his son Alonzo Bernard Alexander Jr., took over the family business and home. The Alexander Music Company moved to the home in 1969 and stayed there until its closing in 1994.
Mr. Alexander Jr's, daughter took over the home upon her father's death. In 1992, Ms. Sherry Alexander, restored the home and was awarded the Peggy Gignilliat Preservation Award by the Spartanburg County Historical Association. In 1994 the music house closed. This ended the four generation long ownership of the home by the Alexander's. Ms. Alexander sold the house to Charles and Derrick Belue where they opened their chiropratic clinic. In February 2002, Wayne and Susan Sease purchased the home and it has become the first Bed and Breakfast in the City of Spartanburg. On April 11, 2002, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The efforts of the Sease's along with the support of the residents of this town have made this home one of the best preserved historic homes in the City of Spartanburg.
